Do the math. Even if it’s just addition. It doesn’t matter. It’s incredibly important.
As technology evolves, it becomes more efficient. It crawls into smaller form factors, it uses less energy.
The convenience machine has been around for quite some time, but up until recently, it required a trained operator. You can now operate the convenience machine if you can read this post.
People love the convenience machine, and yes; so do I. I’ve written software that would have taken me actually understanding the problem – spending hours / days / weeks on solutioning, observability, whatever into mere minutes… but I didn’t necessarily do the math. But I understood the equation, and it was just for my convenience, right?
You do know how to do the math, don’t you? You don’t find yourself surrounded by volumes of knowledge in a language that you studied for a while, but now struggle to find native speakers, right?
